Alpha Chi Chapter at University of Pittsburgh highlights new inductees during their “Excellence Reception”

At the spring induction ceremony held March 21, 2024 at the Oakland campus of University of Pittsburgh, the Alpha Chi Chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society welcomed more than a dozen new members!

This event was part of the Excellence Reception, which aims to honor the achievements of students, faculty, and staff in the College of General Studies.

Notable attendees included Carol Cushman, the founding member and first president of ASL Alpha Chi, as well as Mary Synan, the third president and one of the first charter members of the chapter.

During the ceremony, Mrs. Cushman shared her own experience at CGS and discussed the early years of the chapter, highlighting the unique non-traditional student experience in the 1970s. As part of the occasion, the new inductees also learned about the Society’s colors and symbols, took an oath, and were presented with their ASL certificate and honor cords.

Established in 1973, ASL Alpha Chi has a long history of recognizing and honoring the academic accomplishments of CGS’s non-traditional students, and we’re so very glad to have them among our chapters!
