Students

Membership Criteria

Student membership is limited to degree-seeking undergraduate students.  Institutional chapters consist of colleges and universities which offer undergraduate degrees and which are accredited by regional associations.

Student members must have completed a minimum of twelve (12) graded semester hours for an associate degree and twenty-four (24) semester hours for a baccalaureate degree or equivalent and shall be matriculated students in an undergraduate degree program in an institution that meets the academic quality, improvement, and accountability standards set by the Council for Higher Education (CHEA) or by the institutional and programmatic accreditors recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Alternatively, student members may also qualify for Master’s Level Honors. This includes students who have completed or exceeded the number of graduate credits that constitute a full-time graduate academic load that the institution uses to define full-time status in one term and shall be matriculated students in a master’s degree program in an institution that meets the academic quality, improvement, and accountability standards set by the Council for Higher Education (CHEA) or by the institutional and programmatic accreditors recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Please note that local chapters may impose higher standards for student membership than those stated in the ASLHS Constitution

Local chapters may elect faculty, administrative officers, and staff to honorary membership, provided that the number of such active members at any time shall not exceed twenty members or ten percent of the total membership of the chapter, whichever is larger.

Faculty, staff, and administrative personnel shall be exempt from all student membership criteria.

Social Media Guidelines and Best Practices

Alpha Sigma Lambda also has two private groups to provide a place for members of Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society to network with one another.

As we encourage members to get to know each other, we discourage posts for personal businesses or advertisements. Profane or sexual comments/posts will be deleted and the user banned from the site. Please feel free to post photos from your graduation or induction into this group or on the Official ASLHS Facebook page in the visitors’ section.  Photos posted here in the group may be used on the ASLHS website, across ASLHS social media networks, and or in the Midnight Oil newsletter. These groups are moderated by Alpha Sigma Lambda office staff and our social media consultant.  If you see a post that is inappropriate, please contact us to have it removed.  As much as we try to stay on top of things, sometimes things get through.
