Congratulations to Angela Gooden – a recipient of the 2023-2024 Alpha Sigma Lambda Scholarship Award!
Here’s a little bit of her story in her own words…
“My name is Angela Gooden. I am a student, a mother, an intern for the Student Leadership Council, a first generation American, and a first generation college student/graduate. I am a currently attending the University of Maryland Global Campus where I am double majoring in Human Resources Management and Communications. I currently hold a 3.9 GPA, “I’m a straight A” student, and I am a member of 4 honor societies.
Upon graduating with my undergraduate degree I plan to live and work abroad for the Federal Government as a DOD civilian. This is my career aspiration because I have always wanted to follow in my maternal aunts footsteps, both of whom have worked for the federal government their whole lives and became very successful. My family came to the U.S. as immigrants in the 80’s during the Lebanon war. My grandparents desired to seek a safer life for their 8 children, and they all became U.S. citizens.
Another reason I desire to work abroad is because my family and I were stationed in Japan for 3 years. My son was born in Japan, and my daughter received the opportunity to attend Japanese school and model in Japan. After having the opportunity to live in Japan, my family and I have gained a strong passion for diversity and experiencing other cultures.”
Congratulations, Angela!
