This month, our spotlight shines on Madeleine Metzler, Associate Dean at Providence College’s School of Continuing Education, whose heartfelt reflections and unwavering commitment exemplify the true spirit of a Chapter Councilor.

Madeleine’s journey with Alpha Sigma Lambda spans multiple chapters, beginning with the Alpha Chapter at Northwestern University’s School of Continuing Studies, where she participated in the society’s 50th Anniversary celebration. Most recently, she has been actively involved with the Eta Lambda Chapter at Providence College, eagerly looking forward to its 80th anniversary in a few years. Her long-standing engagement underscores her deep appreciation for the society’s mission and her dedication to fostering lifelong learning.

In her own words, Madeleine describes serving as an ASLHS Chapter Councilor as a meaningful experience rooted in celebrating the passion for learning that nontraditional students embody. She emphasizes that these students are not merely striving for credentials; they are driven by a genuine desire to expand their knowledge and understanding. Their pursuit of education often extends beyond the degree, serving as a testament to the lifelong journey of growth, curiosity, and development.

Madeleine also highlights the vital role of liberal arts education.
