As part of our ongoing series to highlight the impactful work conducted by our dedicated councilors, this month, we are thrilled to shine a light on Sachiko Komagata, who serves as the Chapter Councilor for the ASLHS chapter at Georgian Court University.

Sachiko, who became the Chapter Councilor in March 2023, has been an integral part of ASLHS for over a decade. She was first nominated by students to become a member, and her commitment to service has only grown since then. In her role, Sachiko encounters the inductees each year who embody the mission of their university, particularly focusing on First Generation students and those hailing from underrepresented groups.

Each inductee represents a diverse array of backgrounds, including mothers, fathers, and working professionals who exemplify resilience and dedication in their pursuit of higher education. These hardworking learners not only excel academically but also contribute significantly to their communities outside the classroom.

During her time as Chapter Councilor, Sachiko has enjoyed hosting induction ceremonies that foster a sense of community. These events, held on Sundays to allow families to attend, celebrate the achievements of the inductees and honor their journeys.

Sachiko also commends the Alpha Sigma Lambda organization for its exceptional structure and support. Drawing from her experiences as a faculty advisor for other honor societies, she acknowledges the outstanding efforts of Robin and the behind-the-scenes team that contribute to making ASLHS a remarkable organization to collaborate with.
