Common Questions for Chapters

How do I establish a chapter?

Go to Alpha Sigma Lambda to access the online application under the chapter’s tab, “Start a Chapter”. Chapter approval usually takes up to three weeks.

How much are new chapter dues and when are they to be paid?

New chapter dues are $200, invoiced in October of each year, and due by January 1st of the following year.

How do I reinstate my chapter that is no longer active?

A chapter may be re-established by completing the online application under the chapter’s tab, “Start a Chapter” at https://alsiglam.org/ If you have any questions, please contact our office by email at alsiglam@eiu.edu. If your chapter has been inactive for longer than 2 years, the chapter may become reinstated by completing the chapter application and paying the chapter dues of $400. The chapter dues that are paid include the first year’s dues of $200, a podium banner and start up materials.

How long does it take to activate a new chapter?

Once the chapter application has been received by the home office, the process of approval takes about two weeks. Once approved, your institution will be notified by email. Once the new chapter dues are received, we will send out the start-up materials and order a podium banner.

How do I choose a Greek name for my new chapter?

Once the new chapter application is received, a Greek name will be assigned to the chapter by the home office. If there is a name that is preferential to the chapter, a request for that name can be sent to our office for consideration.

How do I submit information for the Midnight Oil Newsletter?

Email photos and photo captions and/or induction information to alphasigmalambdasm@alsiglam.org.

We need to make changes to our chapter's constitution. Who do we contact to make those changes?

Please contact the home office by emailing us at alsiglam@eiu.edu. We will assist you with making these changes.

How long are the chapter dues good for?

Chapter dues are invoiced in October and are effective January through December 31 of the following year.

My chapter was just activated, and I am not quite sure what the next step is?

The ASLHS website is an excellent resource to have your questions answered. It will also be beneficial to read through the ASL honor society Constitution and By-Laws. If you need further assistance, please contact the ASLHS home office by emailing alsiglam@eiu.edu or by phone (217) 581-7106.

How do I submit new inductees and when?

New inductees may be submitted at any time or when requested at the end of each year by using the online template found in the chapter toolkit. Completed lists may be emailed to alsiglam@eiu.edu.

I'm a new chapter councilor and need to be inducted so that I may induct others. How is this accomplished?

Once the chapter change of information form is completed and submitted to the home office, you will receive an email with the ASL honor society ritual and vita for you to complete. Please return the signed vita to alsiglam@eiu.edu as soon as possible. This form needs to be on file prior to inducting members into the honor society.

We have had a change in chapter councilors. How do I report this?

Complete and submit the change of information form under the chapter’s tab on our website.

I'm a newly appointed chapter councilor. How do I request a copy of our chapter's constitution?

A copy of the chapter’s constitution may be requested by emailing the home office at alsiglam@eiu.edu.
