Claudann Defilippis: 2025-2026 ASLHS Scholarship Award Recipient

Welcome to our first installment of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society’s weekly spotlight on our 2025-2026 Scholarship Recipients! Over the next several weeks, we will be celebrating the inspiring stories of 23 remarkable scholarship recipients—adult learners who embody perseverance, dedication, and a passion for lifelong learning.

Today, we are excited to introduce you to a truly exceptional scholar from Virginia Commonwealth University, Claudann Defilippis.

Claudann is a shining example of what it means to pursue academic excellence while balancing life’s many responsibilities. As the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Rollin Posey Scholarship Award, she maintains a flawless 4.0 GPA and is on track to graduate Summa Cum Laude in May 2026. Her commitment to inclusive education and literacy instruction is evident in her passion for supporting diverse learners, including English Language Learners. 

What makes Claudann’s journey even more inspiring is her role as an adult learner and a mother. She seamlessly balances her studies, family life, and community leadership, exemplifying resilience, purpose, and a deep dedication to her goals. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of education as a tool for personal and community growth.

Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society is proud to support remarkable students like Claudann through our scholarship program. For the 2025-2026 academic year, we awarded a total of $60,000 in scholarships to 21 outstanding adult learners nationwide. Our scholarships range from $2,000 to $3,000 and are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership, personal motivation, and financial need. Since our inception, we have awarded over $734,400 in scholarship funds, empowering countless adult students to reach their educational goals.

Our scholarship process is designed to recognize and support dedicated adult learners who are committed to completing their degrees. Applicants must attend an institution with an active Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter, complete at least 24 semester hours with a minimum GPA of 3.2, and demonstrate financial need. The selection process considers academic record, leadership qualities, personal statements, and recommendations.
