Elizabeth Smith – 2022-2023 ASLHS Scholarship Award Recipient

Congrats to Elizabeth Smith, a recipient of the ’22-23 ASLHS Scholarship Award!

Elizabeth is a double major in health communication and music at Rollins College. She is also in the inaugural class of accelerated graduate students to earn a Master of Public Health by 2024.

She has published in academic journals, newspapers, and student magazines. She currently serves as a student representative for the DEI Presidential Taskforce and the Global Initiatives Committee at her institution.

Elizabeth is an avid disability rights advocate. She participated in the Student-Faculty Collaborative Scholarship Program to understand the shift to online learning during the pandemic for students with disabilities and received a Diversity Infusion Grant to initiate the first Disability Empowerment Week on the Rollins College campus in Spring 2022.

During the pandemic, she completed three remote experiences, including an internship with the KEM Hospital Research Center in India, Global Scholars Fellowship in East Africa with the Global Livingston Institute, and a Student Ambassador in China with Asia Society. Once Elizabeth completes her MPH, she aims to become a Fulbright-Fogarty Fellow to conduct research.

Additionally, she may continue her education to earn either a Ph.D. in the public health field or a J.D. in Health Law to work for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the World Health Organization. She is open to possibilities, but Elizabeth is certain to be instrumental in improving health outcomes for individuals within communities.

Congratulations Elizabeth!
