As we continue our series celebrating the remarkable members of our 2026 Board of Directors, today we are excited to highlight Whitney McDowell-Robinson, Ph.D. NCC, our new Membership Development Co-Director. Whitney’s proven leadership, extensive experience in higher education, and deep commitment to supporting adult learners make her an invaluable part of our organizational team.
Whitney McDowell-Robinson currently serves as the Vice President for Student Development & Engagement and as an adjunct professor in the College of Education at Brenau University in Georgia. Her career has been marked by a dedication to fostering student success, especially among adult and nontraditional learners. Prior to Brenau, she held multiple roles at Tougaloo College in Mississippi, including Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services. Her impressive educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Tougaloo College, a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Jackson State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Higher Education from Jackson State University.
Whitney’s active engagement in professional and civic organizations underscores her commitment to service and leadership. She currently serves as Treasurer for the Hall County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and as the Done in a Day Chair for the Junior League of Gainesville-Hall County. She is also the Cookie Leader for Troop 11917 of the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, and a Board Advisor for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Her past roles include serving as the 2022-2023 Corresponding Secretary for the Jackson (MS) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, and as a member of the NACE Board of Directors. Her leadership and service extend to various associations focused on career development, education, and student affairs.
Among her many accolades are being named one of the Top 50 Women Leaders of Atlanta for 2024, receiving the NACE/Spelman Johnson Rising Star Award in 2020, and being inducted into the Tougaloo College “40 Under 40” Hall of Fame in 2017. Whitney is also a nationally certified mental health counselor and regularly volunteers her services within her community.
Whitney’s journey as a nontraditional learner—earning her degrees while balancing family and professional responsibilities—brings a valuable perspective to her work with adult students. She and her husband have two children and a fur baby, embodying the very spirit of resilience and dedication that defines our society.
As Membership Development Co-Director, Whitney will play a vital role in fostering engagement, growth, and support for our members. Her leadership and experience will undoubtedly help shape the future of Alpha Sigma Lambda as we continue to serve and celebrate adult learners nationwide.
