In her own words, Lisa offers a behind the scenes look at what led to her educational journey. Learn more:

“As a third-year student at the University of Maryland Global Campus, I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science with a minor in Diversity Awareness. I am married to my high school sweetheart Gary, and we have three children. I am also a proud grandmother (Coco) to six granddaughters and two grandsons, and the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran.

In the summer of 2021, at the age of 54, I embarked on a transformative academic journey. Despite facing the challenges of a learning disability, I have proudly maintained a 4.0 GPA. In 2023, I earned membership into the prestigious Tau Chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.

I am an active member of the Glassboro Orchid Club, a women’s organization dedicated to raising scholarship funds for high school seniors. This involvement has enriched my personal growth and strengthened my commitment to helping others.

These achievements have bolstered my confidence and fueled my personal, academic, and professional development. Upon graduation, I plan to attend Rutgers University to pursue a Master’s Degree in Social Work. As the first in my family to attend college, this goal holds immense significance for me.

My journey has been shaped by my years of service as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), where I have had the privilege of serving my community. This experience has deepened my passion for helping others and inspired my goal of starting a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and resources to those in need.

Embarking on my academic journey, I never anticipated the profound rewards and challenges it would bring. Despite the obstacles, my determination to reach the finish line remains unwavering. Each hurdle has strengthened my resolve and fueled my ambition.

I take immense pride in my accomplishments, knowing they are the result of hard work, perseverance, and an unyielding desire to excel. The knowledge and skills I have gained empower me to make a meaningful difference in the world.

I am eager to leverage these tools to create a positive impact on my community and society. Whether through innovative solutions, compassionate service, or inspiring others to pursue their dreams, I am committed to using my education as a force for good. My journey is far from over, but I am excited to continue pushing boundaries, breaking barriers, and making a lasting impact.”
