Read below to learn what Marolla shares about her journey:

“My name is Marolla Youakim. I am a Student who came from Egypt two years ago with my language barrier and different culture background.

I started my trip in Hudson County Community College (HCCC) where I have always heard that Hudson is Home and it is really became my home.

At my first semester I enrolled myself in 17 credit hours classes. However, later on I felt that it was hard for me. Luckily, I got introduced to the Educational Opportunity Fund (known as EOF), I joined that program where I found them very helpful, and they push me to get the best version of myself . They also believed in me, and my abilities and I completed my first semester with a 4.0 GPA. Not only this, but they also introduced me to many honor societies and asked me to join in community services. From there, I found another way in the Student Center services.

Since this moment, I was honored to hold several leadership positions HCCC. I became the President of Alpha Sigma Lambda (ASL), where I support adult learners in achieving their educational goals. Not only this, but also as the Vice-President of Scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), I am committed to promoting academic excellence and community service. I also serve as a Student Advisory Committee Representative for the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) for two consecutive years now, where I advocate for student interests at the state level.

In the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), my role as Society Events Chair officer taught me how to organize events that foster leadership and professional development.

Additionally, I serve as a Senator in the Student Government Association (SGA) and as the Programming Coordinator for the Student Programming Board (SPB). My involvement extends to the Nursing Admission Committee and the Nursing Curriculum Committee, where I represent student voices in crucial decision-making processes.

I work as an academic coach in the medical assistant program, geology, and chemistry classes at HCCC, and I am a peer mentor in the ACCESS program where we help student with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

I also work as an Academic Professional for the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF).

Last but not least I made it halfway through the nursing program. Looking forward for my long-term goal to become a nurse practitioner, where I hope to make a significant impact on patient care and the healthcare community.

Join us in wishing a big “congratulations” to Marolla. Well done!
