Today, we’re pleased to highlight Porsha Watkins – a recipient of the 2023-2024 Alpha Sigma Lambda Scholarship Award! ⁠

Porsha Watkins is a Social Work major at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, where she is enrolled in the APEX program (Adult and Professional Education at Xavier). She is a fierce advocate in the realm of human rights and social justice and engages in outreach efforts that support and encourage individuals affected by homelessness and poverty. Through her community involvement and academic and professional experience she has grown into a strong leader who possesses a strong work ethic and a relentless desire to serve others. 

Upon graduation, her goal is to work with individuals affected by mental illness and substance use disorder. She began her educational journey at Xavier in 2015, but the process was interrupted due to her declining mental health, and she took time away from school to work on improving her health condition. With consistent treatment her condition improved significantly over time, and she returned to Xavier in 2021 to continue her academic pursuits. In her future role, she plans to become a Social Worker, working with adolescents and young adults to empower them and help them reach their highest potential while leading fulfilling lives with a strong emphasis on mental and emotional wellness.
