Spotlight on Our Leaders — Shelley Hintz, Society President

Opening our ongoing series to highlight several members of our 2026 Board of Directors, we are proud to shine a light on Shelley Hintz, our dedicated Society President. Shelley’s commitment, leadership, and passion for serving adult learners continues to inspire us all.

Shelley Hintz has enjoyed her time with Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society (ASLHS) and is eager to continue her service in her current role. She previously served as President during 2020-2021 and has since held the position of Immediate Past President (2024). Throughout her tenure, Shelley made significant contributions—helping to develop the Chapter Councilor Tool-kit, providing vital resources to help chapters navigate the challenges of the pandemic, and conducting research on digital certificates as a potential option for chapters. Her leadership also extended to sharing her expertise at two ACHE Conferences, representing the honor society and advocating for adult learners. Shelley is excited to see how ASLHS has evolved and how it continues to adapt to better serve adult students across the country.

Professionally, Shelley is the Director of Student Engagement at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). In this role, she manages the development of student resources, recognition programs, and engagement activities tailored to the university’s adult student population. Her dedication to adult learners is also reflected in her over ten years of service as the chapter councilor for the Tau Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda. She runs the chapter’s local scholarship program and coordinates the processing and induction of over 700 students each year into the Honor Society. Shelley also hosts virtual induction ceremonies each semester for new members and actively shares volunteer opportunities to encourage members’ involvement in the university community.

Shelley holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Maryland—College Park. Her commitment to education and professional development extends beyond ASLHS; she previously served on the conference planning and awards committees of UPCEA’s Mid-Atlantic Region, and as awards committee chair for three years, recognizing innovative work in continuing education. Additionally, she was a founding member and served as treasurer of the Maryland College Learning Center Association (MDCLCA), actively participating in conference planning and board activities.

Shelley Hintz’s leadership exemplifies the spirit of dedication and service that drives Alpha Sigma Lambda. We are grateful for her ongoing commitment and excited to have her guiding our organization into the future. Stay tuned for more profiles in our series highlighting the remarkable members of our 2026 Board!
