Common Questions for Students
Induction into Alpha Sigma Lambda is done on an institutional level, meaning that each institution has their own set of specific criteria that must be met in order to receive an invitation to join. Membership into ASLHS is by invitation only by the chapter councilor at your institution.
Chapter counselors of each institution should be awarding a membership certificate and card to each new inductee. If this has not been awarded, please contact the chapter counselor at your institution. Individual students may not purchase membership certificates or cards, this must be done by the chapter counselor of the institution.
Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship.
The Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society extends membership to eligible undergraduate students.

Scholarship applications are posted on our website in January of each year. The applicant must complete the application and return it to the chapter counselor at their institution by the deadline date determined by the chapter counselor. The applicant does not need to be a member of ASLHS to apply for a scholarship. The only requirement is that the institution you are attending must have an active ASLHS chapter.

Membership into Alpha Sigma Lambda is a lifetime membership.
Institutional chapters may purchase academic regalia for the members to be given to the member before graduation. Please reach out to the chapter councilor at your institution for assistance if you are unsure if you need to purchase the regalia from our online store. A membership certificate is issued by the chapter institution. Please keep your membership certificate for proof of membership.

Common Questions for Chapters
Go to Alpha Sigma Lambda to access the online application under the chapter’s tab, “Start a Chapter”. Chapter approval usually takes up to three weeks.
New chapter dues are $400, which includes first year’s dues of $200, a podium banner and start up materials. After the initial startup cost, yearly dues are $200. Invoices are sent out to the chapter councilor in October each year and are due by January 1st of the following year.
A chapter may be re-established by completing the online application under the chapter’s tab, “Start a Chapter” at https://alsiglam.org/ If you have any questions, please contact our office by email at alsiglam@eiu.edu. If your chapter has been inactive for longer than 2 years, the chapter may become reinstated by completing the chapter application and paying the chapter dues of $400. The chapter dues that are paid include the first year’s dues of $200, a podium banner and start up materials.
Once the chapter application has been received by the home office, the process of approval takes about two weeks. Once approved, your institution will be notified by email. Once the new chapter dues are received, we will send out the start-up materials and order a podium banner.
Once the new chapter application is received, a Greek name will be assigned to the chapter by the home office. If there is a name that is preferential to the chapter, a request for that name can be sent to our office for consideration.

The ASLHS website is an excellent resource to have your questions answered. It will also be beneficial to read through the ASL honor society Constitution and By-Laws. If you need further assistance, please contact the ASLHS home office by emailing alsiglam@eiu.edu or by phone (217) 581-7106.
New inductees may be submitted at any time or when requested at the end of each year by using the online template found in the chapter toolkit. Completed lists may be emailed to alsiglam@eiu.edu.
Once the chapter change of information form is completed and submitted to the home office, you will receive an email with the ASL honor society ritual and vita for you to complete. Please return the signed vita to alsiglam@eiu.edu as soon as possible. This form needs to be on file prior to inducting members into the honor society.
