In our ongoing series to highlight 2025-2026 scholarship recipients, this week, we are proud to feature Leonya Friemel at Northern Kentucky University, whose inspiring journey exemplifies resilience and a unwavering commitment to making a difference through education.
Leonya is a dedicated adult learner pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. As a non-traditional student and single mother of two, Leonya shares,
“This support is invaluable as I pursue my degree through the groundbreaking Paraeducator Pathway Program. This scholarship will be a catalyst in finishing my unique degree program, allowing me to create a learning space where every student feels a deep sense of belonging and knows they are both safe and valued.”
When not immersed in studies or balancing family responsibilities, Leonya finds peace and rejuvenation hiking to waterfalls and fishing, which fuels her passion for helping others and creating positive change.
Her story is a testament to perseverance, determination, and the pursuit of a brighter future.
Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society is honored to support inspiring adult learners like Leonya, whose stories reflect the core values of our organization. Each year, our scholarships recognize students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and financial need, empowering them to reach their educational goals and expand their opportunities.
Please join us in congratulating Leonya on her achievements and well-deserved recognition! Here’s to celebrating resilience, purpose, and lifelong learning!
